Batman’s Lair

TOYPHOTOGRAPHS

I made this image of two Hot Wheels cars photographed against a paper backdrop with a print that mirror’s batman’s bat cave that was affixed to foam core. I placed that backrop set inside a box I got from Costco that acts as a photo booth. Lighting came from one Profoto C1Plus mounted on a swing arm above the set. Composed and photographed with an iPhone 14 Pro Max mounted in a Moment Mag-safe Cage.

I made the photo using Filmic Firstlight camera app.

This is a test shot made just as a JPEG. I wanted to see what I could do with JPEGS from this new phone camera before trying the RAW files. I have to say I am impressed at the JPEG quality. I still had headroom to edit it in Photoshop and Boris FX Optics and it came out exactly as I hoped it would. It’s fairly heavy edit in that I added lots of lighting and atmospheric effects with no problem. I have a BTS shot of the set, a before picture of the straight JPEG and the finished product after edit.

This is the image straight out of camera…

I am sharing and showing this as information for those who are curious about whether or not you can make a serious photograph with a cell phone camera shooting JPEG. For me the answer is yes — may be different for you. Enjoy.

Remember, toys are joy.
