Mandalorian Hunts Moff Gideon
In the soft light of the automated prison ship — Mando senses that he’s not alone. He heard Moff Gideon might be aboard.
This is my new IronStudios 1/10 art scale statue photographed in my home studio. Here’s the behind the scenes look.
I used the Impact Photo Pro LED Booth 400 — https://bhpho.to/3NTpLxQ as my base. I love this thing. It’s about 4x4' and just the right size for action figure photography. When I need a more expansive set I use my 4x8' table in my second camera room.
I had some 3D printed parts created (from a seller on Etsy) that match the typical layout of a Star Wars-era space ship. A Wimberley PP-200 Plamp II — https://amzn.to/3Vkaqvd is behind the back wall of the “space ship” holding it in place.
I placed a simple bounce card (white side to camera) behind the wall with the slats on it. Then I used a Platypod Ultra — https://bhpho.to/3oZfBlb to hold up a LumeCube 2.0 Mini LED Light — https://bhpho.to/3L32iL7 that I bounced into the white side of the bounce card so the light would come through behind the statue of the Mandalorian.
I added a Lume Cube Panel Pro — https://bhpho.to/3ulpqgB attached to a Platypod Elbow — https://bhpho.to/3SkINRr which was attached to a Platypod Max — https://bhpho.to/3uk5MSe to put a front side kicker light onto the Mandalorian. This is set to very low power (5%) 5200K light. (I control all the Lume Cube stuff from their app on my iPhone.)
The camera (a Fuji X100V) is mounted to a Platypod Extreme — https://bhpho.to/3bIIAX3 using a Robus RTH-1030 Triple Action Ball Head
https://bhpho.to/3LjtxRx. If you’re wandering why I’m not using a Platyball here it’s only because of the very low angle of the camera. The Platyball is rather tall and usually that’s not a problem. But occasionally I need to get the camera mounted lower to the ground so I use the Robus head, which is stead as a rock.
From there I just make a few refinements to the pose — making sure the background matches the best angle for the figure’s face and I press the shutter.
ISO is 160. Aperture is f/4. Exposure time is 0.12 of a second.
Post processing is done as follows. I use Capture One 2022 for the RAW conversion only. Then I import to Adobe Photoshop — https://bhpho.to/3c0cHK1 for basic cropping and levels adjustment. I also do spot healing to remove any dust or lint on the figure that I missed before making the photo. Then I import into Boris FX Optics — BorisFX 2022 (Save 20% off Boris FX Optics, go to https://bit.ly/3CtYWwt and enter my special coupon code on checkout: bourne-optics) for creative work and export.
