Thor Ultimate
Iron Studios Thor Ultimate
From the Marvel series, Thor has always been a favorite. I wanted to make an image that showed him in all his glory.
You can see where I started in the BTS. Simple lighting setup. I started with my Genaray Full Moon 18" Bi-Color LED Light — https://bhpho.to/3PcAFQx — I use this light in about 75% of my toy photographs as what I call a “world light.” It’s an ambient source in a dark studio that gives me a baseline. It’s power and color variable and I love, love, love it.
I pointed it up at my 18' ceiling to give it a big, soft feel. Then I brought in a small silver bounce card and stuck it camera left to reflect just a kiss of light onto the character’s face — also camera left.
I made the photo with my beloved Fuji X100V (https://bit.ly/3BhhMXW) I am sorry to say you probably cannot find one to buy. They are so popular that they have been on perpetual backorder. I probably should buy a second one just to be safe because it’s a few years old and they may not make them for much longer. But I am moving towards trying to use it as my sole camera.
I mounted the Fujifilm X Series US on the Platypod Max — https://bhpho.to/3uk5MSe and Platyball Ergo Ball Head — https://bhpho.to/3Agde4u
I used a photo printed background that I enhanced in post. This is my usual workflow…
Capture One (RAW CONVERSION)
Photoshop (BASIC CROP, LEVELS, IMAGE CLEANUP)
BorisFX Optics 2022.5 (PARTICLE EFFECTS & COLOR GRADING)
Topaz Photo AI (NOISE, SHARPENING, IMAGE RESOLUTION ADJUSTMENT)
I also used Topaz Studio to touch up the hair on the character.
I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I spent way more time on this image than I usually do but since I was having fun, who cares?
